Scotchman Industries, a producer of metal fabricating equipment, discusses a few of the differences between their Band Saws and Cold Saws. https:
Industrial NEws Buzz - A durable metal cutting saw is indispensable for those in industrial and construction fields, but knowing exactly which type of saw is needed can be a challenge.
With all the different types and models available on the market today, it's important to first assess a number of factors regarding the material being cut. Fabricating equipment is designed to handle a variety of metals, including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, but these machines can also be used to cut materials like wood or plastic. After the types of materials have been identified, next consider the angle and shape of the cut, the size and thickness of the material. If you're unsure where to begin, always consult an expert before you make a purchase.
With more than 50 years of experience in the metal fabrication industry, Scotchman Industries has developed a reputation as a leader in machinery production and customer service. "We like to know what our customers are trying to accomplish, so we ask a lot of questions about their projects," explained owner Jerry Kroetch. "Once we've determined what kind of materials they are working with, certain dimensions, and what accessories they might need, we're able to suggest the best machine for the job."
Once these factors have been outlined, it will be easier to identify the pros and cons of different machines. Scotchman's line of Band Saws includes vertical or horizontal, manual, semi-automatic and fully automatic versions. They are available with either a fixed head for straight 90 deg cutting or a swing head up to 60 deg right and 45 deg left, without material movement.
For smaller profiles, 4-7/8" Round and 4-1/2" square and smaller, a circular cold saw may be a better machine for the applications. Circular cold sawing is unique in that the blade turns at a very low RPM which produces a fast, milled burr free cut + or - .002 per diameter inch in squareness without heat, dust or sparks. The expert staff at Scotchman can also offer tips and advice for maintaining your equipment and they are one of the only companies in the industry to offer a three-year warranty on their Ironworkers, Cold Saws, and Band Saws.
